Ever wondered what becomes of the games we make at the jams? Do teams ever get back together to finish their games? Do they ever port them to a popular platform like the iPhone and release them for money? Well, that’s exactly what (at least) one of our teams is doing!
Yilmaz Kiymaz and Alex Schwartz teamed up (with a few other talented jammers) to make a Unity3D-based game called Smuggle Truck: Operation Immigration at the Immigration Jam last August. By the end of the jam, it was clear that the game was really fun, and Alex & Yilmaz announced their plans to release the game on the iTunes App Store for iPhone and iPad.
To make a long story short, they have now formed their own independent game development company, Owlchemy Labs, and work on the game is going at full steam (seriously: they guys work hard). Here’s their most recent video where they introduce their level editor which they will be releasing to the public soon! Watch the video for more details:
If you’d like to stay up to date with Smuggle Truck and/or help spread the word, you can follow Owlchemy Labs on Facebook, check out their newly-minted Press Kit page or subscribe to their blog and YouTube channel.
It’s great to see teams following their game jam-born vision to fruition. I hope to announce some similarly awesome news about another team following up with their game jam project in the near future. Stay tuned to learn more.
